Kim Wibbelt Interview - Titus
Thanks to forladysonly.de for spotting this video interview of Kim Wibbelt. As we reported earlier in the year, Kim and fellow Nikita rider Maria Falbo took a trip to New York for an MTV comp. She was also part of the “Girls Attack Milan” session and now’s she got an interview through Titus. (Only in German at the moment - can anyone help translate? - but the skating kicks)

“With long blod hair you wouldn’t associate this girl with skateboarding. Take a second look and you’ll know immediately. This chick got balls. When she is on her board she transforms into a skateboard-monster. Rails, gaps, curbs, it doesn’t matter everything gets shredded…”
Opening passage from the Candy Jacobs interview in True Magazine. Awesome. Read it.

L’Oréal Paris has chosen Nancy Chang as a 2008 Women Of Worth for her volunteer work with Skate Like a Girl.
Women Of Worth was created in 2006 as a grassroots program and award to honor women who serve others in their communities. Each year the program selects ten honorees from around the country. Also, one honoree will be selected by public vote and recognized as the National Woman Of Worth Honoree and her charity will receive a donation of $25,000 from L’Oréal Paris.
Winning the National Woman Of Worth award would mean a lot of things for not only Skate Like a Girl, but it would help promote Girls Skateboarding in general. This is really the jump start Skate Like a Girl would need to be able to tour, put out movies, and provide skateboarding opportunities to girls around the country and the world.
Click here to vote for her to become the National Woman of Worth and help the Skate Like A Girl charity win $25,000! Click here for a full press release. Voting runs from November 10 to November 24.

ESPN Press Release: Equal Money at X Games 13
Press release from ESPN:
“ESPN is proud to announce that the X Games and Winter X Games will feature equal prize money for both men and women in 2009. ESPN has been a leader in promoting and programming women’s athletics, and this recent action sports prize purse increase is the latest example. This past summer saw the X Games feature women’s motocross for the first time, and the upcoming Winter X Games will feature a host of female Olympic medalists from several different countries. Starting with Winter X Games 13 in January, 2009, men and women athletes at all X Games events will compete for equal cash awards.”
- John Skipper, ESPN executive vice president
A huge congratulations to The Alliance, particularly CB Burnside, Mimi Knoop and Drew Mearns who met with the John prior to X Games 12 and hammered out what many consider to be a historic deal to bring women’s actions sports to parity with the men’s side - financially and in broadcast exposure - over the next year or two.
“He was really good about not only listening to us, but he committed then and there to specific changes that will help all women action sports athletes - not just skaters - this year and on into the future.”
- Cara Beth Burnside, said after the meeting

Amy Caron Pro model - Forest Skateboards
Thanks to a couple of readers for pointing out that Forest Skateboards have recently released a super-stylish pro model board for Amy Caron. There’s a real focus on creativity, fun and individuality in the design - which sums up nicely what Amy is all about - and the fact that she has been leading the way since her early days in 2003 when she was the Transworld female street skater of the year. Below is some nice footage from Amy in the 2006 Slam City Jam. Thanks.
Backspinning Quarters in the Candy Machine
If you watch anything this week - make it the new skate documentary called “Backspinning Quarters in the Candy Machine” by Pam Rittelmeyer. Featuring female pro skaters from across the decades - it is the definitive history of women in skateboarding. There is some awesome footage and stills going all the way back to the 60’s up to more recent years - all focussng on the progress of women’s skating.
It’s pretty powerful stuff, it sucks you in, inspires you and gets you real psyched about the girl skate scene. Some of the interviews are pure class - and there’s some wicked retro tunes backing it all up. 5 stars - no question.
