Lucia Susa Interview
Deeny at Girls Assault recently ran an interview with 15 year old skater Lucia Susa from Rosario, Argentina. Below is an English translation for you to enjoy.

Luci Tell us your age, where you come from and how long you are you …
I have 15 years, I am for a rosary and I’m skating for 4 years.
As we gave you skate?
I was 10 years and the accompanying my sister (Vir Sosa) who wanted to know “The Dome” Skate a little school in Rosario, younger sister and me as I re thousand methylated, and I started to walk, could not more! There he taught the Toad, Manteca and Tuni. Then shut down and I started to get together with some guys (Maurito, Lucas, Squirrel, Maxi, Whisker, John, a couple more ..) in North Park.
As an ideal session for you, where you like to walk in Rosario?
Some late afternoon with a perfect sky, Spain Park with the entire river view, music where the ships go, my friends and skate looong! The places where skating is in North Park, and now Spain Park it renewed, and has a perfect floor like the Backside!
I like to compete, which leaves you feeling?
I love, at first as most I have nerves, but there is always someone wave shaking and thrusting, I still crazy after the championships, catch me terrible cramps, I do shit, but I do not care. Bs As events are the best, Sebban me a lot!
What places would you like to know pa skate?
I would like to see Barcelona!
Video and favorite skater, Seben you?
I seba the VillaVillaCola (Getting Nowhere Faster). I like the style Vanessa Torres and Alison Nugget.
Your days without skating, as they are?
Sleep, sleep and sleep, I hear a lot of music on there lol or I’ll study with
a friend to the park, do not do much.
Rosario was one of the cities that grew over the past 7 years standard female skate, as you see, that would add or change?
Progress a lot, there was a time I was doing rehab for knees and when I returned I could not believe how many boys and girls began to walk. The girls who had already perfected the flip, trying to tests as varialflip or hardflip! I had left of his face. What it takes is a skatepark DONE and only for skaters hahaha. The Skateplaza we have already all broken and filled with bikers.
One piece of advice for a girl who wants to learn …
That skate all you can always have fun and good time on your skateboard, friends or no friends and you do not mind all the nonsense that people tell you!
Thanks for your time and let us know, now is up to you … thank, greet, etc …
Deeny Thanks to the little note at the photos and Videoman Maqui the part! Thanks to my Mother for always putting up and take me to events and all the kids with those who always skate! Hyenas Never Die! ”

Evelien in Summer issue Reload
Check out the cover of the summer issue of Dutch Reload-magazine, it has Evelien on the cover (artwork: Martina Johanna) plus an interview with Evelien.

Spotlight: Abby Zsarnay
SkaterGirl caught up with the amazing young talent Abby “Zace” Zsarnay. Alerady this year she has competed in the Florida Bowl Riders (World Cup Skateboarding sanctioned) in March and took 2nd place overall for the 2 day event for the females. In April she competed in the Basic Bowl Am and took 2nd Place. In May she competed in the Woodward West AmBush Series and took 2nd in the Mini Ramp, 2nd in Vert and 1st in the Street Comp. And in May she was invited to perform a Skate Demo for the Pleasant Valley Skate Park “Rock n Skate” Day. A busy and impressive start to the year for anyone!!
But at just 16 years old, it’s particularly amazing as Abby then told us what she has planned for the rest of the year… training to compete in the remainder of the World Cup Bowl Series Events. The S3 Super Girl at Woodward West, The Oregon Trifecta, The Tim Brauch Memorial Bowl in San Jose, Ca, Pro Tec Pool Party Am/Female Event, Rock the Cradle for Johnny Romano Bowl Comp in Houston, The Vegas Invasion: Ladies Bowl Contest, and I’m sure several other comps that pop up throughout the summer!!!
Just to put things in perspective though, we did ask Abby what she does when she’s not skating – and like a lot of I guess, she is usually doing homework for school, hanging out with her friends and family, and when she gets a chance she likes to surf. She also likes to make Duct Tape bracelets and wallets for fun.
Back in 2009 she skated the Tim Brauch Memorial Bowl in San Jose, California during the World Cup Bowl Series (see Front Side Air pic left) and having just got her own deck from Cheapsk8r (see pic above right), the future looks bright for Abby and we’re sure she will continue to be an inspiration to other girls out there. You can friend up with Abby on Facebook or keep an eye on her YouTube channel.
There’s a great little clip of a 14 year old Abby busting air over 14 boards…
Check out the video from the 2009 Concrete Rodeo…
Her advice to other girl skaters? (source: the lurkersintention) Keep trying even if you fall. Just get back up and try again. Don’t give up just because you get frustrated or mad because you fell or can’t land something. Once you get frustrated, everything is going to become so much harder. Take a break from that trick, try something else and come back to it later.
You can read more about Abby’s skateboard life so far after the break…

Ida gets Fokus-ed
Ida Östensson is the founder behind You Skate Girl and the national project “No Limit” – both targeted at girls. She has just appeared in Fokus News talking about her top tips for girls looking to get hooked on skateboarding. Check out the full story here (in Swedish), which also includes some skateboard history and trick definitions. Below is a translated version of what Ida had to say:
Organize yourself
Gather together all the girls who go or want to go (if there are none, then gather all the guys who can encourage girls to start). Start a club, a Facebook group or mailing list.
Role Models
It is important to have someone to identify with. Make sure that there are women in leadership positions – as a trainer, coach, staff or the like.
Custom times
It can be very tough to be the only girl who come to a local skate where there are only boys. If you can have your own girls time, this may help. But the goal is that skateboarding culture should be equal so in the end different times are not needed.
Marketing
Working hard to be seen. Make sure that it always appears that you have directed you to the girls. Make sure that girls appear in posters, even when the event is targeted at boys too.
Collaborate
To succeed, it is important that you get with your local skateboard club, skate shop, skateboard riders, municipality, youth organizations and educational associations. My clubs would not have had time to do half the things we have done without all the support from partners.
