What a weekend, X Games 16 in Los Angeles, California was awesome!! Alexis Sablone, the 24 year old from Brooklyn, took gold even though she didnt like the tea cup quarterpipe, which was modeled after a sculpture in Miami. Sablone used the stairs, rails and the stairs’ ledges en route to winning the women’s street gold medal on Sunday afternoon:
“All these girls were awesome skating” said Sablone, who finished with a silver medal last year. “I grew up skating my garage and parking lots. I never went to places like here. I was worried about it. So I did what I could and did not worry about what I couldn’t do.”
Although she was trailing Leticia Bufoni by a wide margin, she did a kickflip 50-50 rail grind to start her 86.00 winning run and did a frontside rail slide on the ledge to take the win.
“I love my kickflips,” she said. “It’s hard when things are big. It becomes a question to what tricks to try and do consistently. It was the kickflips and that rail. That definitely was my favorite section.”
Bufoni, a 17-year-old from Los Angeles who grew up in Brazil, finished second with a kickflip down the stairs and kickflip up a ramp. Evelyn Bouillart of Belgium finished third with a 50-50 grind down the rail on her final run. Covina’s Lacey Baker failed to advance from the elimination round. The Northview High School senior finished ninth overall with a best score of 60.33.
“Everything was kind of gnarly,” the 17-year-old said. “In general, I was not feeling this contest.” That said, she was the only skater to complete a 360 kickflip up the ramp and do a nollie kickflip over the gap.
The full ladies street results were as follows:
1. Alexis Sablone
2. Leticia Bufoni
3. Marisa Dal Santo
4. Evelien Bouilliart
5. Elissa Steamer
6. Amy Caron
7. Vanessa Torres
8. Abisha Alshebaiki
9. Lacey Baker
10. Lorena Lima

Lacey Baker Hits Santa Clarita
On route to the Element Skate Camp, Lacey hits up the Santa Clarita skatepark. Her crazy skills in Prague (Mystic Skate Cup) are clearly still firing on all cylinders. There’s a great little edit over at Side Project to check out.

Mystic Skate Cup 2010
The 16th annual Mystic Sk8 Cup 2010 went down last weekend and was again a part of the World Cup Skateboarding (WCS) contest series. For our new readers on here, this event is traditionally one of the most popular summer holiday events in Prague and professional riders consider it the best contest in Europe. Basically from Friday 2nd until Sunday 4th of July, the top female riders competed for some serious cash of $5,450.
Both contests – street and bowl, were designed by skateboarding legends Dave Duncan, Brian Patch and Radek Teichmann.
In the Ladies bowl, Brazilian Leticia Bufoni was the best from five participating ladies and got, in addition to the World Cup Skateboarding points, a cool 300 USD as the prize money. Second place went to Renatinha Paschini from Brazil and third to American lady Lacey Baker.
Meanwhile in the womens street contest, the glory (point and cash $2000) went to Lacey Baker from the United States followed by bowl winner Leticia Bufoni from Brazil and third Evelien Bouilliard from Belgium.
There was some amazing riding and I’m sure we’ll have footage of the event soon, but in the meantime you can check our a few pictures from Ana Paula Negrao of Leticia skating.

Lacey Baker makes history!!
Lacey made history last weekend by being the first girl EVER to qualify for the Semi Finals at Tampa Am. She received an honourable mention after qualifiying 13th on Saturday and ended up in the 33rd spot (out of 200!) after the Semi-Finals on Sunday. Rob Meronek of the Skatepark of Tampa said: “Girls don’t get judged any different in any of our events, especially Tampa Am. That could be why there has never been a girl that made the cut to Sunday in Tampa. Lacey Baker changed that today. She killed it – noseslide back 270 out down the hubba, hard flipped the stairs, 360 flip the hip, and more.” Whilst there Lacey also tattooed her lip which she Continue reading »

Lacey Baker joins Etnies
She’s already won the Mystic Cup and Maloof Money Cup in 2008 and now she’s got herself hooked up with Etnies. And to make sure they know they’ve got themselves one of the hottest up-and-coming skaters, she quickly takes 2nd place in the ladies street jam final of Goofy vs Regular comp on Sunday 5th October. Good work.
